Comprehensive Certification Program

Perfect Posture Pilates Teacher Training is a career-oriented program. Through our integrative approach to Pilates, you will learn  both classical and contemporary exercises as well as evolved methods of Pilates therapeutic techniques supported by current movement science. The program includes anatomy, biomechanics, Pilates Mat and Equipment exercises, postural strategies, key assessment skills, and essential hands-on techniques to give you confidence in your teaching and to meet the needs of your diverse clientele. 

Most programs are designed to teach students how to be either engaging group instructors, or effective in a private instruction setting. Our program will prepare you to succeed in both. You will learn how to see, sense, and guide all clients to move better in all client situations.

Studio owner Varvara Kalinin has developed this 500-hour Comprehensive Pilates Certification Program to train new Pilates instructors to be competent and effective movement practitioners. Varvara draws on her 20 years of teaching experience and in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and movement exploration to create this  multidisciplinary Pilates training system. Perfect Posture Pilates Teacher Training is the first comprehensive Pilates training in Astoria and all of Queens.

Training Dates

The lectures will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm and Teaching Labs on weekday afternoons. Final schedule to be determined.

***Estimated time commitment to complete the program is nine months to one year.

Pilates Teacher Training Program Course Descriptions

Anatomy and Core Dynamics 

This 3-day course covers the essentials of the musculoskeletal system and how it relates to movement. It is the foundation for Perfect Posture Pilates  teacher training program.

Essential Movement 1 and 2

This unique course is developed by Varvara the owner of Perfect Posture Pilates.  She draws from her 20 years of teaching experience and movement science to develop these 30 exercises which are the building blocks for good movement pattern and are the foundation for the rest of the program.  You will learn how to feel and sense faulty movement patterns and how to correct them. Learn key principles for lumbopelvic stability, mobility and stability of the hip and shoulder joint. 

Mat Level 1 and 2

This course will introduce the History of Pilates and its 6 main principles. You will learn Beginner,  Intermediate and Advanced Mat exercises with their purpose, cues  and anatomy.  

  • You will learn how to modify all exercise for people with different injuries and conditions such as osteoporosis. 
  • You will be able to demonstrate and teach the concepts of neutral spine and pelvis. 
  • You will learn how to integrate the PPP Essential Movement concepts into more dynamic Mat repertoire.  
  • You will learn how to use hands on techniques and creative verbal cues.  
  • You will learn how to design a Mat class from Beginner Level to Advanced Level.
Reformer Level 1 and 2

In this course we will first learn the basic exercise and apply PPP Essential Movement concepts to safely teach a full body workout on the Reformer for all body types. 

  • Learn how to safely set up the equipment.
  • Learn how to use effective tactile and verbal cues.
  • Learn how to design a mindful,  full body workout, address good alignment, core strength and spinal and scapular stability for all levels.
Cadillac Level 1 and 2

You will learn:

  • Beginner to Advanced exercises on the Cadillac,
  • How to safely  set up the equipment,
  • How to modify the equipment and exercises for people with injuries and special conditions. 
Chair

The most athletic out of all the Pilates equipment.  Learn Beginner to Advanced  exercises to help with balance, stability and strength with modifications and progressions for the more athletic client. 

Ladder Barrel and Small Props

Learn  a variety of  exercises on the Ladder Barrel and the Spine Corrector to help challenge the more advanced client and the  specific modifications for corrective exercises.   

Postural Assessment

You will learn how to see and analyze both static and dynamic posture for your individual client.

Learn how to identify and correct dysfunctional movement patterns.  

Common Injuries and Conditions

This course we will discuss the most common injuries such as disc herniations, shoulder, neck, knee, hip, ankle and foot problems, pre and post natal, scoliosis and osteoporosis. 

Therapeutics

Learn the art of touch, specific tactile cues and manual  release techniques 

Fascial Release Techniques

This course will teach you how to use a variety of props and specific pressure points to help with facial re-patterning in your body.  

Programming

In this course we will apply and integrate all the lectures and  design an effective private session for a new Pilates client,  clients with injuries and conditions and how to progress a client . As well as design a mindful,  group Reformer classes for all levels.  

Pilates Teacher Code of Ethics

This is a 2 hour course on necessary components for professionalism in the Pilates industry.

Practice and Certification Requirements

Requirements to complete your Pilates teacher training program and gain the required teaching skills for your certification.

Teaching Labs

After every Equipment lecture the students will meet to practice for 2 hours and go over the material and hone their teaching skills. This will be on Mondays or Wednesdays.  

65 Observation Hours

You will learn from watching!  Students will need to schedule a time to observe PPP’s senior instructors and a log in their hours in the observation log in sheet.  

80 Hours of Self Practice

Practice makes perfect 🙂 Schedule 80 hours of your own self practice at our studio using all the equipment and going over all the exercises in the lectures and deepening your own Pilates self-practice.  

You can also explore and take classes at other studios in the city and log in your hour (talk to Varvara for more details about that.)

90 Hours Practice Teaching

Bring a friend or a family member to the studio to practice your skills and log in your hours.  

20 Apprentice Hours (non paid)

You will need to teach at Perfect Posture Pilates both group classes and private sessions for no fee.  

This will give you real life experience teaching and getting feedback from paying clients. 

A Written and Practical Final Exam

Upon the completion of all the hours and a passing grade in the Final Witten and practical exam you will receive a Certificate of completion for Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training from Perfect Posture Pilates and be able to teach at any studio.
